Certification Exam Manager

The American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery (ABFAS) elevates the podiatric profession through rigorous board certification, ongoing education initiatives like the LEAD program, and comprehensive case reviews conducted by our nation’s most elite podiatric surgeons. As Certification Exam Manager, reporting to the Director of Examinations, you will be the operational backbone of the Case Review Exam, the final step in ABFAS’s board certification process.

In this position, you’ll oversee every aspect of the Case Review Exam, including audits and appeals, from initial planning and design to ongoing management. This includes directing complex workflows with many moving parts where accuracy, timing, and clear communication are critical. You will coordinate cross-functional teams of senior management, directors, and other key members to ensure alignment, meet deadlines, and manage procedural changes. In addition, you’ll collaborate closely with the Associate Director of Credentials, who handles the profession’s questions and concerns in all areas, including ABFAS examination results and preparation, case logging, and case review preparation, ensuring subject matter expertise is appropriately managed. Beyond internal coordination, you will support exam candidates by guiding them through the requirements, ensuring accurate submission of documents, and following up on any missing or incorrect paperwork.

At ABFAS, we are committed to supporting your professional growth. In addition to mentoring and support from our staff, you will have access to LinkedIn Learning and be encouraged to attend professional development opportunities. As you gain experience in the position, you’ll have the opportunity to help evolve the Case Review program by critically evaluating exam process data, identifying issues, sharing insights with leadership, and recommending and implementing improvements.

How You’ll Make an Impact

You will play a key role in building our team’s capacity by taking ownership of and improving workflows currently managed by our Executive Director. Your project management and professional communication skills will help us continuously improve while maintaining exceptional standards of accuracy and consistency. This ensures that patients and hospitals can trust that certified surgeons have demonstrated a high level of capability and are committed to ongoing skill development. The Case Review Exam also has a major impact on candidates’ careers and certification. Your guidance and attention to detail will be vital in supporting their success while upholding the program’s integrity and reputation.
